Beginner Adult Dance Classes in Reno to Raise Awareness and Help Those With Dementia and Alzheimer's

Help those with dementia and Alzheimer's by taking our (donation only) beginner adult dance lessons in Reno.

Just a quick reminder about this Saturday  1 PM at the Ballroom of Reno School of Dance.  They will be hosting a donation only beginner level dance class fundraiser from 1 PM to 4 PM Saturday June 19.

I am part of the team putting this together because the proceeds from this weekends beginner dance camp will go to the Alzheimer's Association in Northern Nevada and The Ballroom of Reno's Dance with Me Dementia dance classes that helps those with dementia through dance.  We are proud partners  with Dementia Friendly Nevada 
  
In Nevada, more than 45,000 people live with Alzheimer's, with 149,000 providing care.

Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia. Alzheimer’s is a specific disease. Dementia is not.

Learning about the two terms and the difference between them is important and can empower individuals with Alzheimer’s or another dementia, their families and their caregivers with necessary knowledge.

West Coast Swing Dancing in Reno and Sparks

  West Coast Swing Dancing in Reno and Sparks Now when we say we have a swing dance club or are going swing dancing, we actually mean we have a West Coast Swing Dance Club or going to dance WCS.  They don't play East Coast Swing music but the music that triples you could dance ECS to it. If you don't know anything about West Coast Swing, let me give you a quick history lesson and explain the difference between swing dances.  The origins of our dance came from Lindy Hop.  Our music was faster, women wore heels and skirts or dresses.  Over the years the music started changing and slowed way down.  Followers put on jeans and low heel dance shoes and even the strike of the foot changed in how we dance it.   A great teacher named Skippy Blair was instrumental in popularizing it in the 50's when she was with Arthur Murray Dance Studios.  She told me that it was originally called "Western Swing" and her response was, "No one is going to want to dance country swing.&

Are Private Lessons for Adults in Dance Classes in Reno Worth The Cost?

  Are Private Lessons Worth the Cost for Ballroom, Latin or Swing Dancing? Can I be super honest with you? Yes. Now you may be thinking he is only saying that because he makes his living teaching ballroom and west coast swing dance in Reno .  But I will tell you the truth about learning to dance at my level.  I have spent more money than most college tuitions charge on my dancing and 95 percent of it was on private lessons.  It did not matter what the cost was because I would only study with champions.  It did not matter if it was my Ballroom, Latin (yes, I used to compete as a Latin Ballroom dancer), or West Coast Swing coach, they had to be a champion.   Why am I bringing up that I only took lessons with champions?  Well, it's because I wanted to be a champion and that was the only way I knew to get there.   Do you need to take lessons with champions only?
