Improve Your Swing Dance Reno By Taking Different Types of Swing Dance Lessons

How You Can Improve Your Swing Dancing in Reno with Swing Dance Lessons of Different Styles.

There is no dance called "Swing"

What?  What do you mean? I have danced swing so I know it's a dance!  Well, you dance a style of swing.  You could have danced Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, East Coast Swing, Collegiate Shag, Jive, Bal-Swing, Lindy Charleston, Carolina Shag, St. Louis Shag, D.C. Hand Dancing, Rodeo Swing, Ceroc, Modern Jive, Boogie Woogie, New York Bop or West Coast Swing or shit there probably are more that I can not think of.

Why is it called swing?

In the '20s the dance came along with the music of the day.  In Swing music, the musicians play some notes late and then catch up in the next couple of beats.  (in dance we call that light and shade)  They call that swinging the beat.  So when you dance a swing rhythm you will hold one of the steps longer.  An easy way to see it is to use words instead of numbers 1 & 2 you can say, "dot, dot, dash"  when doing a triple step.   Most swings have a pendulum swing but some other swings like West Coast Swing have a metronomic swing.

What is the best swing dance?

Well, that is a good question.  I have danced many different styles of swing in Reno and taken swing classes and taught lessons at the Ballroom of Reno in West Coast Swing, Carolina Shag, D.C. Hand Dance and of course Jive and East Coast Swing.  So, what swing dance would I tell Reno dancers is the best?  Hmmm....Subliminal West message Coast inserted Swing here...That's is something I can't decide for you but I will tell you dances like WCS are more forgiving and can be danced to contemporary music that does not swing, so bonus for the westies.  That alone makes it more fun with the variety of music. Hand dancing dances to non-swinging music as well.  But there are only West Coast Swing dance classes for adults in Reno and Sparks.  Sooooooo, there's that. 😎

What other Swing Dance in Reno Should I Learn?

East coast is easy but if you are a West Coast Swing dancer it will not make your dance better.  However, Lindy Hop would.  Lindy Hop is the grandfather of WCS and the leveraging and connection will help you understand what it feels like even though westies now have a much lighter connection until they are trying to convey something unique to their partner.  Also, if you ever can learn Carolina Shag Swing dance it will teach you a ton of footwork that we use in west coast.

If you want to be a better East Coast swing dancer, learn some Jive.  It will increase your leg speed and help articulate your feet giving you a good bounce that those styles require.

All dancing in Reno is fun but if you never have danced swing, give it a go and you will find fun and exercise all at the same time.
