Okay Reno, Why ballroom, Latin, or Swing Dancing?

Why Ballroom, Latin or Swing Dancing?

I have been dancing Ballroom Latin and Swing in Reno for over 18 years.  I started dancing ballet, jazz, and tap as a teenager and even moved to Los Angeles and danced in some shows.  But I quickly realized I was not good enough to make a career at it until someone introduced me to ballroom dance.

I discovered it did not hurt my body and it was fun dancing with someone instead of by myself.  It did take some time to learn and understand how to lead and follow but with some practice I got it.

I love ballroom dances!  I love Latin dancing!  I love West Coast Swing dance!  Heck, I just love dance and I love dancing ballroom, latin and west coast swing in Reno and Sparks.  (okay, anywhere, but Reno, Sparks and Carson areas have such a great dance community and they have become my dance family)

We do not find dance, dance finds us.  That may be a weird thing to say but I believe it.  We know we want to dance long before we ever really think about doing anything about it.

Not everyone takes it seriously enough to make it a career and they should not.  You should learn to dance for fun.  Dance any style whether it is ballet classes, tap dance class or belly dancing, it is all good.

If you are new to dance, ballroom studios offer you a gamut of choices.  You can dance the Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Argentine Tango, Bolero, Rumba, Cha-Cha, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Samba, Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Viennese Waltz, night Club two-step, Country two-step Salsa on two, Bachata dance, Cumbia dance, Bolero, and many other social partner dances.

If you are a former ballet or other rigorous dance style dancer and your body is more mature and attempting to tell you that leaping across the dance floor may not be good for your knees you should look into other styles like ballroom, Latin, argentine tango or swing, but never and I mean never stop dancing!

Personal recommendation would be West Coast Swing if you only have time to learn one dance to start.  The reasons are because you can dance it anywhere that has music playing, we dance to all different types of contemporary music and blues.  Even though it may not be the easiest to learn in the beginning, it is very forgiving for the newer dancer and mistakes do not stop you from having fun.  But any of them are fun.

You know you have always wanted to dance or get back into dancing.  You know it is a fantastic way to meet new people, and you know you need to move your body every day.

So get your ass out there and learn to dance.

Cheers,

J
